2. What This Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) tells you what personal information Ratshie (Pty) Ltd collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights you have over it. It applies whenever you browse ratshie.co.za, contact us, submit an enquiry, request a quote, book a service or place an order.
We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA), the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA) and other applicable South African law.
We are a “responsible party” under POPIA for the personal information we hold. We value your trust and only collect the information we genuinely need to run our business honestly.
3. Information We Collect
We collect only the information needed to serve you. This includes:
- Contact details — your name, email address, phone/WhatsApp number and delivery or collection address.
- Vehicle details — the make, model and year of your vehicle, and the vehicle registration or VIN where you provide it, so we can quote, source the right parts or book the right service.
- Order and quote details — the products you buy, the services you request, your requested rental/booking dates/goal, notes and communication history with us.
- Account details (members) — if you register, your login identity and account preferences.
- Optional account details — your password is stored as a secure, salted hash, never in plain text.
- Payment confirmation — we do not collect or store your card or bank details. Payments are processed by PayFast, our secure payment gateway. We only keep the payment reference and outcome.
- Technical data — standard web server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited, device type) so we can keep the site secure and fix faults.
Whenever we ask for information marked optional, you may choose not to provide it.
4. Why We Process Your Information
We use your personal information for these purposes:
- To respond to enquiries and contact you about your quotes, orders and bookings.
- To supply the goods and services you ordered or requested, and to arrange delivery or collection.
- To process, confirm and reconcile payments (through our secure gateway).
- To provide customer support and after-sales service online, by phone or on WhatsApp.
- To keep records required by South African tax law and the Companies Act.
- To improve our website, services and shop and to keep the site secure.
- To send you order updates and confirmations. We only send marketing messages if you have consented (and you can unsubscribe at any time).
5. Lawful Bases We Rely On
Under POPIA we may only process your information where we have a lawful basis. We rely on:
- Consent — where you opted in (for example marketing or optional extras).
- Contract — to perform our side of a quote, booking or order you asked us to fulfil.
- Legal obligation — to keep records and comply with tax and company law.
- Legitimate interest — to run and protect our business (e.g. security, anti-fraud and quality control) where your rights do not outweigh ours.
6. Who We Share Your Information With
We never sell your personal information. We only share it where it is necessary to serve you or where the law requires it:
- Payment partners — PayFast, our payment gateway, for processing payments.
- Delivery / courier partners — only the details required to deliver your order.
- Service providers — web hosting and email/notification providers that help us run the site, under contract and only for our purposes.
- Law enforcement, regulators or courts — where we are required to by law or to protect our legal rights.
Where we use a third-party processor, we agree contracts that require them to treat your information lawfully and keep it secure.
7. How We Protect Your Information
We take reasonable, appropriate technical and organisational measures to keep your personal information secure, including:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site.
- Secure, hashed storage of passwords.
- Restricted access to personal information on a need-to-know basis.
- Regular review of our practices and limited, justified data retention.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Although we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security of information shared over the internet.
8. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. In particular:
- Invoices and transaction records are kept for the periods required by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Companies Act.
- Order and customer records are kept so we can honour warranties, returns and after-sales support.
- When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.
9. Children
Our services are intended for persons 18 years or older or who are legally able to consent. Where we process information about children we do so with a responsible parent or guardian’s consent and only where the law permits.
10. Your Rights Under POPIA
You have rights over your personal information. Subject to the conditions and limits in POPIA, you may:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Correct or update information that is inaccurate or incomplete.

11. Pop-up / Cookie Notes & Do-Not-Track
Our site uses browser storage (such as your shopping cart) to remember what’s in your basket while you shop. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, we honour it to the extent we can.
